Disciples

Christians have bumper stickers and catch phrases,
Believers have creeds and promises,
Disciples have scars and stories.
This was at the heading of a passionate, heart-breaking prayer letter from a young couple working in Burundi. It encapsulated my inner beliefs in a way I had not seen before. Talk about challenging! I asked myself, where am I on that list? I have a horrible feeling that I have oscillated between them but I know I have such a desire to be a disciple and not just a believer. I am reminded of the scripture in James Chapter 2 verses 18-20 which talks about faith and actions:- “But someone will say, one person has faith, another has actions.” Do you believe there is one God? Good! The demons also believe – and tremble with fear. You fool!”
The Church in the Western world has been happy to associate with the first two sentiments – now it’s time for the disciples to come out of the Christendom wreckage.
