North London United 9 British Bulldogs 4

A much deserved victory for the whole team. Despite missing the absent Alfie 'Sol' Hodgson and Sebastian having to pass a late fitness test our strength as a team shone through.

Sebastian hit a magnificent six goals, Daniel, Alex and Tahmid one each as we played a good slick, passing game. Yet it was probably the defenders who stood out most, with David outstanding in goal and Josh solid at the back. The only down side was a needless sending off for Matt (we think for pesistently failing to tie up his laces) and John 'I don't want to come on yet'  Curtis , not coming on.

A great result, the future looks bright.

North London United 6 Cobras 12

A fantastic game against the reigning League Champions, with North London giving them a run for their money right up to the final whistle.

Our new attacking formation saw Tahmid play even better than usual, scoring a sensational hat trick from midfield. Sebastian was his usual ruthless self, scoring a further three helping us lead for much of the first half.

Yet a tragic injury to Alfie just before half time took the wind out of our sails and by the time we had re-organised Cobras were clear. Still all worked hard, with Josh filling in manfully in defence (until he too received an injury that brought tears to his eyes and his watching father), Ashley was lively, Anthony and John both made longer than usual appearances. Finally, David was excellent in goal, saving with all parts of his body as the shots reigned in.

Once again, a lot to be positive about. Soon we shall win!

North London United 4 Berkeley 14

On the face of it we seem to be getting worse, but the result did not reflect the performance. Another gutsy effort saw support for the underdogs grow, we certainly have a growing reputation as the team that never gives up.

A better shape saw Sebastian lead the line up front and score three goals and Alfie take no prisoners as the sole defender and scoring one of his own. Tahmid and David worked hard in midfield, Davey was fearless in goal and subs Alex and Matt always willing.

Soon the results willmatch the performance.

We perhaps paid for lack of the activity in the January transfer window as Berkeley seemed to have replaced most of their team (including the recruitment of a Tottenham Youth Academy player). Yet we have faith in our players, the results will come.

North London United 8 Berkeley 11

The best performance of the season where the final quickly came just too quickly to end a fantastic second half performance. In a mostly tight second half we were just 2-1 when coach Martin started his controversial rotation policy. The disorientated players lost shape and sense of direction and by half time we were 7-2 down.

Yet in a brilliant second half the team re-gained its will and passion. Four goal Sebastian was on fire, Alfie was inspirational, Tahmid magnificent, Josh knackered and David solid in goal. Sorry to the subs, but thanks for your support.

To the next season.

North London United 4 Muswell Hill Blues 11

A great srat saw us lead this game until close to half time, when 2-1 to us became 5-2 to them in typical Power League fashion. We continued to play good football and remained competitive throughout, despite the manager over-rotating his enormous squad. All played well, Dylan scored a fantastic goal, but no one was probably on the pitch long enough to make a difference. One more game to go in a season where we have learned a lot.

North London United 4 Cobras 14

A much, much better performance as North London silenced the critics and relieved the pressure on under fire manager Martin Hodgson against the league leaders.

Despite the score line this was a close game. Stand in reserve, reserve, reserve goalkeeper Alfie was fantastic in goal as we stunned the opposition by our competitiveness. Alfie's friends helped with Josh solid and David dangerous, adding some physical presence to the team. Add to this the determination of Tahmid, the skill of Sebastian and Daniel and the enthusiasm of John and Daniel's friend (one day I will remember his name) and we have a promising team.

Goals were scored by David (two), Sebastian and Josh and with a little more luck we could have had more.

Two games left and both are winnable. Let's end on a high!

North London United 2 Panthers 23

On paper a disaster, but in reality having gone in to half time losing 17-0 North London United did fantastically well in closely contested second half.

Without both first and second choice goalkeepers we could make excuses for the first half, but that would mean we could learn nothing. What we did learn was to tackle hard, shoot hard and follow the runners by getting goal side.

In a brilliant second half Matthew was sensational in goal, Alfie and Tahmid stood firm, Anthony and John both made good contributions, our two new signings made promising debuts and Sebastian and Daniel scored great goals.

Most of all WE DID NOT GIVE UP.

Well done to everyone. We lose together, we learn together and eventually we will win together.

North London United 2 Muswell Hill Blues 14

Another positive performance from defeat as no one gave up and individually we all shone. In a much calmer atmosphere than our previous encounter North London played some fanstastic football but lacked the end product in a first half where we over-passed  and under-shot, but were punished by a very good team.

As usual Alfie and Tahmid were excellent in defence and stand in goalkeeper Alex did the best he could, making some excellent saves despite being injured. John and Anthony both looked threatening when coming on up front.

However at 13-0 we appeared to have no reward for a good performance until Daniel and Sebastian linked to produce two great goals for Sebastian in a finish that showed how good we could become. In fact we won the last ten minutes 2-1.

Another step towards becoming the best. Well done to you all.

22nd and 29th October- Matches postponed due to holidays.

North London United 2 Cobras 14

Another disappointing result but another promising performance. North London competed throughout and the game was closer than the scoreline suggested against the League leaders who had beaten the previously 'invincible' Muswell Hill the week before.

Heading the call to 'get stuck in' Tamid and Alfie were excellent once again in defence. Alfie rose from his sick bed to play an excellent one- two off the the post for Matt Myatt to score his first for the club. Matt also one the prize for 'best foul' on North London reject Andrew, an excusable act on the likeable, but Judas like 'glory hunter'. Ashley Myatt was lively as always, Sebastian and Daniel skillful, although a little frustrated by the lack of service. John made a short cameo.

Yet the 'Men of the Match' were brothers Matt and Alex Dann. Alex scoring the goal of the game and Matt performing heroics in goal.

What did we learn? Continue to 'get stuck in', track and get goal side of their runners, use the walls and play the ball down the line. But most of all we learnt to keep going, encourage one another and not to give up.

Training re-starts this Sunday at 11pm at the school.

North London United 3 Panthers 15

Another set back after a very good first half we were mauled by the Panthers. In a good first half there were some excellent performances. Both Sebastian and Daniel performed skilfully while still able to get 'stuck in' for the team, both getting a goal each. Tahmid was outstanding in defence, blocking shot after shot as Davey saved everything else that got through. John and Anthony made promising 'cameos' with the brothers Alex and Matt working tirelessly, Alex deserving his calmly taken goal. At half time we only trailed 3-2.

Yet in the October heat of the Power League we were simply overwhelmed in the second half. It is very tempting to make excuses- both Andrew and Alfie were 'poached' by a rival Power League team and Arsenal respectively, Ashley apparently had an urgent appointment with his bed and his brother Matt still hasn't made his long awaited debut. They were considerably bigger than us and once again had played together for longer.

But there are no need for excuses. We gave our best but are still learning. We win together and lose together. Each week will give us something new to learn and there were a lot of positives from the first half. Let's stick together, overcome and do our best.

North London United Youth 4 Muswell Hill Blues 13

If you want to be the best you’ve got to face the best. Unfortunately we got a bit of a lesson from the reigning league champions as we succumbed to a more experienced, and very skilful team. Starting at a furious pace Muswell Hill soon took the lead, although we hit back straight away with a superb finish from Andrew we were simply overwhelmed in the first half, conceding ten goals. Their pace of passing, movement off the ball and firm tackling are all things we can learn from this team who train regularly, play regularly and apparently drink regularly together.

Yet our second half performance showed great promise of our own. Davey remained solid in goal despite the onslaught, Tahmid never gave up and Ashley kept running as the defence held firm. Brothers Alex and Matthew added life to the midfield, and Daniel and Anthony showed great promise. Sebastian calmly finished for another goal, and Andrew got a deserved hatrick as we kept going and the opposition lost control. Indeed so frustrated were the opposition that their Rooney look a like got sin binned and their peroxide Alan Smith got mouthier and mouthier. Cockiness, mouthiness and bad grace are not things we can learn from the best team, but the worst winners.

So how could we teach them a lesson? The favourite to do so was surely Karate kid John, but unfortunately he had to hand his karate license into the Power League. So it was left to man of the match Alfie ‘Psycho’ Hodgson to render divine retribution on the mouthiest opponent, as the question ‘what are you going to do about it?’ was met by a perfectly timed tackle that took man and ball, but left the whiner in a heap, forcing his father to leave the bar to carry his tearful little so and so off he pitch, there, there.

So what can we learn? We are good enough, have great spirit, high skill and are good losers. But we can learn movement off the ball, following the runners and be strong in the tackle. We have to learn to be the best.

North London United Youth 14 Berkley Rangers 1

An amazing start for the youth team as the opposition were blown away by a promising blend of individual skill and team work. Against a talented but disjointed opposition the Youths showed a ruthless streak that the senior team never have, as they methodically destroyed the opposition.

There were stars all over the pitch but special mention to Sebastian ‘Iceman’ Sundvik whose continental technique was complimented by a Scandinavian coolness in front of goal as he scored no less than seven goals. Equally impressive was goalie Davey ‘Ice Hockey’ Ackerman who seamlessly transferred his experience on the ice to the Power League in a near perfect performance. Alfie ‘Cool Head’ Hodgson was excellent in defence and attack, scoring twice, aided by defensive partner the tenacious Tamid. After weeks of negotiation new signing Andrew ‘Hot Boots’ Dawson confirmed his reputation as the Power Leagues hottest property with four goals and some flamboyant nutmegs. Matthew Dann was sharp and lively adding another goal, forging a good partnership with the hardworking Matt Myatt. Once he controlled his urge to kick the ball off the pitch John ‘ave it’ Curtis was solid in defence, and Russian import Anthony made a promising debut.

I fantastic team effort, with the ‘work hard, play hard’ ethic continuing to the evening as the team showed the same commitment to gambling and shooting at the Wild West evening. Good start, let’s aim to be the best.
