Idolatry
Idolatry can creep up on us. It hasn’t got much to do with strange objects made of wood and stone but it won’t be long; I’m thinking crystals and anything with “spiritual energy” or “healing properties”. Our idols are mostly in our minds – the perfect man, child or fantasies of one sort or the other. It could be endless learning, holidays, obsessive collecting or a burning ambition. Any thing or person who is deemed to be totally irreplaceable and totally demands the devotion, time and energy of your inner person is an idol. The Lord wants us free of any sin/bondage so that He and His plans can be the source of our delight and satisfaction. I had a friend once who was addicted to Mills and Boon books. She lived in a safe fantasy world and it bound her but she eventually saw it and gave them up and has gone on to live a more fulfilling and successful life . She said it was her way of protecting herself against the real thing and real responsibility. Jesus Christ knows that nothing else but to worship God with all our hearts and minds first will deliver. Period.
