Uganda Patongo IDP Camp In the Acholi region of northern Uganda, the people have endured twenty-two years of war and suffering at the hands of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). The LRA’s terrorised and killed thousands of civilians, and to worldwide condemnation abducted more than 20,000 children. These children were forced to become child soldiers, sex slaves, porters, spies and human shields. Not only were they abused by the LRA, they were also made to commit terrible atrocities against others. A fragile peace is now in place, but thousands are still traumatised by the brutality of the war, and are struggling to rebuild their lives.
Every minute of every day millions of children suffer terrible injustices...
Jubilee Action is building a youth centre to support these children on their journey of recovery and rehabilitation. It will give them back trust, and belief that they can have a future without fear and abuse.
The youth centre will provide:
- Trauma counselling for former child soldiers.
- Vocational training in carpentry, IT and tailoring.
- Community based workshops on reintegration
- Education to compensate for years of lost schooling.
- Training on health issues such as HIV and AIDS.
- Workshops to prevent gender based violence, rape, and drug and alcohol abuse.
We are trying to raise £45,000 to build this youth centre which will help 6,000 young child-headed families of former child soldiers. Even the smallest donation can bring about life-changing opportunities to these children who have lost all hope of a future.
· £5 - Text books for one classroom.
· £10 – Trauma counselling for one child.
· £25 – Education for 50
children on HIV/AIDs.
· £35 – Training and set up for one small business.
Jubilee Action rescues and protects children around the world from the most serious injustices. We rescue them from immediate risk and provide rehabilitation, support and education so that they can
realise a new vision for their lives. Thank you!
