I am on a mission to discover the stories of each one of us in this church. I am asking 5 simple questions :-
Jon's Story
Was there a time when you didn’t believe in God?
No. I grew up in the Church of England and always believed in God.
When did that change and how did it happen?
The first key step was when I was 13 and was confirmed. I remember thinking about whether to do it whilst on my paper round. I wanted to belong to Jesus for the rest of my life. The second key step was when I was 17 and a friend took me and a group of others to a Cutting Edge event with Delirious a Christian band. My friend explained that some strange things might happen like speaking in tongues, people shaking and falling over but that it was OK and I experienced the Holy Spirit for the first time.
What difference did it make and how has it affected your choices and decisions since?
My teenage years were up and down with drink and drugs but knowing that Jesus was always there. I could turn to Him when I’d messed up. Still do. Every decision I’ve made has involved Jesus.
Do you have a story of healing or an answer to prayer for a difficult situation?
When I was struggling financially one time. I was in debt with bills to pay and no food. I went to bed and prayed. I knew many stories about God helping other people so, I thought, how about it? The following morning I had a cheque in the post. This happened again and again. Some cheques came with letters saying that God had told them to send me the money.
What has God gifted you in?
Pastor/Apostle. I’m sensitive to others. When God called me to youth work one special summer I wasn’t serving in any particular area so I prayed and asked God where I should get involved. He told me to be a role model for younger boys.
